Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis

Definition

Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare disorder characterized by the abnormal proliferation of Langerhans cells, which are specialized immune cells found in the skin and other organs. This overgrowth can lead to the formation of tumors and damage to various body systems, including the skin, bones, lungs, liver, spleen, and endocrine system. The severity and symptoms of LCH can vary widely, ranging from isolated skin or bone lesions to life-threatening multi-organ involvement.
