Timothy Tran, MD
Biography
Timothy Tran, MD, is a urologist who specializes in kidney stone treatment and prevention.
“I focus on the reason that someone forms a stone and then formulating an individually tailored plan for stone prevention,” Dr. Tran says. “When it comes to kidney stone treatments, many are available, and they range from relatively simple procedures to ones that are more complex and challenging.”
In addition to general urologic care, Dr. Tran performs minimally invasive procedures to treat kidney stones. “We’re fortunate at Yale to have the most advanced technologies, including small, high-quality cameras that can fit in small places. We also have the highest quality laser technology to break up bigger stones in a more efficient manner,” he says.
The best part of his job, Dr. Tran says, is seeing happy patients. “I think you can really help people be happy when they've been suffering a long time with very severe pain from kidney stones. Women say it's worse than childbirth. For many men, it's the worst pain they ever had,” Dr. Tran says. “To alleviate that type of condition, not just in the near term by removing the stone, but also for the long term, by figuring out a successful recipe for stone prevention, brings me great joy.”
