Biography

Roland Assi, MD, MMS (Master of Medical Science), is a cardiac surgeon who performs a range of heart surgeries. He specializes in the treatment of thoracic aortic disease such as aortic aneurysms and dissections, advanced endovascular aortic surgery, coronary artery bypass surgery, aortic valve surgery, mitral valve surgery, heart and lung transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support devices.

Dr. Assi became a cardiac surgeon because he wanted the opportunity to help people live longer and healthier lives. “It makes me very happy when my patients tell me how they got back to their lives after heart surgery, and that they are able to celebrate family milestones and anniversaries for many years to come,” he says. Many patients enjoy their lives with less worry about their heart condition after they have been treated, he says.

Cardiac surgery has been evolving as surgeons find better and better ways to use more minimally invasive approaches, Dr. Assi says. But many patients who are facing heart surgery still worry about what the experience will be like as well as the outcome. “I reassure them that my team and I are completely devoted to taking care of them and helping them get through the surgery and the recovery phase,” Dr. Assi says. “We listen to them and treat them with respect and dignity.”
