Biography

Mary Tomayko, MD, PhD, is a dermatologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune blistering diseases and other immune-mediated skin diseases.

As director of the Yale Immunobullous Clinic, Dr. Tomayko evaluates individuals with complex cutaneous autoimmune and inflammatory disorders such as pemphigus, pemphigoid, epidermolysis bullosa acquisita, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo, alopecia areata, and psoriasis. She uses a range of treatments to manage these conditions, including immunomodulators and biologic agents, as well as phototherapy. Dr. Tomayko also performs surgical excisions of skin cancers and skin lesions.

An associate professor of dermatology and pathology at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Tomayko’s research is focused on understanding how the immune system becomes dysregulated in diseases like bullous pemphigoid and aims to develop effective treatments for these conditions. She also explores how long-lasting immunity to infections and vaccinations is established and maintained and has identified important pathways that may offer new ways to treat autoimmune diseases.

As the director of dermatology education at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Tomayko mentors undergraduate, graduate, and medical students in her laboratory and trains resident physicians and fellows.

Dr. Tomayko received her medical and doctorate degrees from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. She completed her internship at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and both her residency and postdoctoral fellowship at Yale School of Medicine.
