Biography

Jeremy Kortmansky, MD, is a medical oncologist who focuses on caring for people with gastrointestinal cancers, including colorectal and pancreatic tumors. Dr. Kortmansky offers personalized treatment plans that address each patient’s unique needs.

Colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. Dr. Kortmansky emphasizes that proactive screening is key to catching colorectal cancer early. “It cannot be overstated that colorectal cancer can be cured before it starts with routine screening,” he says. “Ultimately, any type of screening is better than no screening.”

An associate professor of medicine (medical oncology) at Yale School of Medicine and chief network officer for Smilow Cancer Hospital, Dr. Kortmansky collaborates with an array of specialists to ensure patients receive comprehensive care. “Treating a patient with cancer takes a team,” he says. “I work daily with gastroenterologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists, palliative care providers, nutritionists, social workers, research staff, and the absolute best nursing staff in the world.”

Dr. Kortmansky earned his medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School and completed a residency in internal medicine at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. He then pursued a fellowship in medical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
