Biography

Harjinder Chowdhary, MD, is a rheumatologist who specializes in myositis, a condition characterized by muscle inflammation.

He also addresses related conditions such as polymyositis (which causes muscle weakness, particularly in the muscles closest to the body's core), dermatomyositis (like polymyositis but also involves a distinctive skin rash), and antisynthetase syndrome (which can lead to inflammation in the muscles and lungs).

Dr. Chowdhary believes that rheumatology is one of the most fascinating specialties due to its diagnostic challenges. “Rheumatology is my passion, and my background in medicine helps me in doing detective work to solve complex problems. I like to understand my patients, and I will always care for them with compassion,” he says.”

He enjoys teaching and has received multiple teaching awards. He was coach of Yale Rheumatology, which won a gold medal at the 2024 American College of Rheumatology meeting in Washington D.C., in which the top 18 rheumatology programs competed.

Dr. Chowdhary earned his medical degree from the Armed Forces Medical College in India. He completed his residency in medicine at both the Armed Forces Medical College and Morristown Memorial Hospital, followed by a fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Connecticut Health Center.
