Gina Novick, PhD
Biography
Gina Novick, PhD, CNM, is a certified nurse-midwife who loves helping patients and families learn how to actively participate in their own care and in making decisions about their reproductive health.
“My favorite part of my job is helping patients gain a greater understanding of their health conditions and solving their health problems, with their collaboration,” Novick says. “Many people don’t realize that certified nurse-midwives provide women’s health care throughout the lifespan, working as a team with other health care professionals, in both outpatient and inpatient settings.”
Novick practices group prenatal care, through which eight to 10 women with similar due dates meet together with a midwife or obstetrician throughout their pregnancy. Instead of short, 15-minute visits, women have one to two hours of education and discussion about important topics related to pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care.
Her research revolves around an innovative, patient-centered model of prenatal care called group prenatal care. She is an associate professor at Yale School of Nursing, and a fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
