Costin Ionescu, MD, PhD
Biography
Costin Ionescu, MD, PhD, is an interventional cardiologist who diagnoses and treats a wide range of heart and vascular conditions, including coronary artery disease. He focuses on helping people prevent complications and manage existing cardiovascular disease, drawing on his interest in platelet biology and atherosclerosis.
As an assistant professor of medicine (cardiovascular medicine) at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Ionescu studies the role of platelets in the development of coronary and peripheral vascular disease. By combining basic science and clinical research, he aims to refine anti-platelet therapies for individual patients.
Dr. Ionescu earned his medical degree from Carol Davila University of Medicine and received a doctoral degree from Wesleyan University. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of St. Raphael, followed by a fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the same institution and an interventional cardiology fellowship at Tufts University School of Medicine.
