Biography

Ania M. Jastreboff, MD, PhD, is an adult and pediatric endocrinologist with expertise in obesity medicine and weight management. She cares for patients who have prediabetes, insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Dr. Jastrebroff, who is director of the Yale Obesity Research Center (Y-Weight), says she empathizes with patients who struggle to lose weight or maintain weight loss. “Carrying excess weight and having obesity is not a lifestyle choice. Obesity is a chronic disease and should be treated with the same vigor and integrity as other chronic diseases,” she says. “We are in the infancy of our understanding of the mechanisms that underlie obesity. Many novel treatments are under development, including new anti-obesity medications, endoscopic procedures, and the refining of behavioral and surgical interventions.”

An assistant professor of medicine (endocrinology) and of pediatrics (endocrinology) at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Jastrebroff says one of her goals is to conduct clinic research that will lead to better treatments for obesity and also have a clear public health impact in mitigating the obesity “pandemic.”
