Biography

Deepa Camenga, MD, specializes in pediatrics and addiction medicine with a focus on pediatric addiction medicine. She is dedicated to providing patient-centered and compassionate care to adolescents and young adults and improving the lives of those impacted by addiction.

Dr. Camenga’s research focuses on improving the identification, prevention, and treatment of substance use disorders among youth. She is also the associate director of Pediatric Programs within the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine, where she leads clinical, educational, and policy efforts to improve the quality of health care for children impacted by substance use.

She has developed several innovative clinical programs in this area, including a school-based health center tele-consult program and an inpatient adolescent addiction medicine consult service.

As an associate professor of emergency medicine at Yale School of Medicine, Dr. Camenga's research is centered on reducing the morbidity and mortality associated with adolescent substance use. She is particularly interested in developing technology-enhanced interventions to reduce drug use among adolescents and young adults. Her work extends to the Yale DrivSim Lab, where she collaborates on studies examining the neurocognitive aspects of risky driving and substance use among youth. As a national expert in pediatric addiction medicine, she also chairs the American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Substance Use and Prevention.

Dr. Camenga completed her medical education and residency training at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry and pursued a fellowship in health services research through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholars Program at Yale School of Medicine.
