Female+ Athlete Program
Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital’s Female+ Athlete Program is the only one of its kind in Connecticut. An expert team, including specialists in orthopaedic surgery, primary care sports medicine, adolescent medicine, psychology, and athletic training, care for girls and young women participating in team sports, endurance sports, and performance athletics.
Our Approach
Girls and young women are prone to different types of injuries than their male counterparts, even when playing the same sports, and benefit from specialized care. Ankle sprains, knee injuries, concussions, and stress fractures are among the more common sports-related injuries in girls.
There are steps athletes can take to reduce their risk for such injuries. Our individualized program focuses on building strength and educating athletes on optimal technique for their sport to reduce the risk of injury, as well as providing state-of-the-art care for injured athletes.
We welcome all adolescents who identify as female or were assigned female sex at birth.
