Olanzapine (ow-lan-zuh-peen) Trial

  • The purpose of this research study is to determine whether taking an olanzapine pill before surgery will impact your quality of recovery and/or help prevent nausea at home during the first 2 days after leaving the hospital.
  • If you participate in the study, you will take a pill that is either olanzapine 5 milligrams or a placebo.
  • If you choose to participate in this research your responsibilities will include taking the study medication in the preoperative room prior to going to the operating room and completing 3 surveys via email; one before surgery, one on the first day after surgery, and one on the second day after surgery. Each survey takes approximately 5-6 minutes to complete.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Female patients aged 18-50 undergoing ambulatory surgery with general anesthesia;
    • Access to a smart device or computer with internet connection and an email address.
