Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) Procedure
Definition
Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) procedure is a minimally invasive procedure performed to create a connection between the portal vein and the hepatic vein within the liver. This connection, or shunt, helps to reduce high blood pressure in the portal vein and prevent complications such as bleeding from enlarged veins in the esophagus and stomach.
