Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return (TAPVR)
Definition
Total anomalous pulmonary venous return (TAPVR) is a rare congenital heart defect in which the pulmonary veins carrying oxygen-rich blood from the lungs do not connect to the left atrium as they should. Instead, they connect to the right atrium or one of its venous tributaries, leading to a mixing of oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor blood, and reduced oxygen supply to the body.
