Definition
Striae, commonly known as stretch marks, are linear, narrow streaks or bands that develop on the skin due to rapid growth or stretching of the skin. They are a form of scarring. Striae can appear on various parts of the body, including the abdomen, breasts, thighs, and buttocks, and are often associated with pregnancy, rapid weight gain or loss, and growth spurts during puberty.
