Spondylolysis is a stress fracture or defect in a thin part of the vertebra called the pars interarticularis, most commonly affecting the lumbar spine. It is often caused by repetitive stress or trauma to the lower back and can lead to lower back pain, muscle stiffness, and in some cases, nerve compression.
