Slipped Capital Femoral Epiphysis, Slipped Upper Femoral Epiphysis

Definition

Slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) or slipped upper femoral epiphysis is a condition in which the growth plate at the top of the femur (thigh bone) slips or separates from the rest of the bone. This can cause pain, instability, and limited range of motion in the hip joint. It typically occurs in adolescents during periods of rapid growth and is more common in males and those who are overweight.
