Reinke's Edema

Definition

Reinke's edema, also known as polypoid degeneration, is a condition characterized by the swelling of the vocal folds due to the accumulation of fluid in the Reinke's space. This can lead to voice changes, such as hoarseness or a lower pitch, and may affect an individual's ability to speak or sing. The condition is often associated with chronic irritation from smoking, vocal abuse, or gastroesophageal reflux.
