Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma
Definition
Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) is a rare, slow-growing type of brain tumor that originates from astrocytes, the supportive cells in the brain. It is characterized by a mix of cell shapes and sizes, and often contains lipid-laden xanthomatous cells. PXA typically affects children and young adults and is most commonly found in the cerebral hemispheres.
