Definition
Periodic fevers with aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and adenitis (PFAPA) syndrome is a rare autoinflammatory disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of high fever, mouth sores (aphthous stomatitis), sore throat (pharyngitis), and swollen lymph nodes (adenitis). The exact cause of PFAPA syndrome is unknown, but it is thought to involve an abnormal immune response.
