Parathyroidectomy

Definition

Parathyroidectomy is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of one or more parathyroid glands. These glands are responsible for producing parathyroid hormone (PTH), which regulates calcium levels in the body. The surgery is typically performed to treat hyperparathyroidism, a condition in which the parathyroid glands produce excessive amounts of PTH, leading to high calcium levels and various health issues.
