Orbital and Periorbital Cellulitis

Definition

Orbital and periorbital cellulitis are infections of the eye and surrounding tissues. Periorbital cellulitis, also known as preseptal cellulitis, affects the eyelids and soft tissues around the eye, while orbital cellulitis, or postseptal cellulitis, involves the eye socket and can potentially spread to nearby structures. Both conditions can be caused by bacterial infections, often originating from sinus infections or trauma to the eye area.
