Multiple gestation, also known as multiple pregnancy, is a condition in which a woman carries more than one fetus during a single pregnancy. This can occur when multiple eggs are fertilized, or when a single fertilized egg splits into two or more embryos. Multiple gestation can result in twins, triplets, or higher-order multiples.
