Modified radical mastectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove breast cancer by excising the entire breast, including the nipple, areola, and most of the overlying skin, as well as some of the lymph nodes under the arm. It is less extensive than a radical mastectomy, which also involves removing the chest wall muscles.
