Inherited Retinal Diseases (IRDs)

Definition

Inherited retinal diseases (IRDs) are a group of rare genetic disorders that affect the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye. These disorders can cause progressive vision loss, leading to partial or complete blindness. IRDs are caused by mutations in specific genes and can be inherited in various patterns, including autosomal dominant, autosomal recessive, and X-linked.
