Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC)

Definition

Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is a medical treatment that involves the administration of heated chemotherapy drugs directly into the abdominal cavity. It is typically used in combination with cytoreductive surgery to treat advanced-stage abdominal cancers, such as peritoneal mesothelioma, ovarian cancer, and colorectal cancer. The heated chemotherapy solution helps to kill cancer cells that may remain after surgery and enhances the effectiveness of the drugs.
