A hereditary cancer syndrome is an inherited syndrome in which there is an increased risk of developing cancer. Hereditary cancer syndromes occur when a person inherits harmful changes in certain genes from their parents. People with a hereditary cancer syndrome may develop cancer at younger ages and have a higher risk of developing more than one cancer.
