Foot and Ankle Malunions and Nonunions

Definition

Foot and ankle malunions and nonunions are conditions where the bones of the foot or ankle fail to heal properly after a fracture. Malunion occurs when the bones heal in an abnormal position, leading to deformity and potential functional impairment. Nonunion is when the fractured bones do not heal or fuse together, resulting in persistent pain and instability.
