Duplex Kidney, Duplex Collecting System

Definition

Duplex kidney, also known as duplex collecting system, is a congenital condition in which a kidney has two ureters or two separate collecting systems instead of one. This anatomical variation can lead to complications such as urinary tract infections, kidney stones, or vesicoureteral reflux, but many individuals with duplex kidneys remain asymptomatic and may not require treatment.
