Duane syndrome is a rare congenital eye movement disorder characterized by the inability to move the eye outward, inward, or both, resulting in limited horizontal eye movement. It is caused by the improper development of the sixth cranial nerve, which controls the lateral rectus muscle responsible for moving the eye.
