Dilation and Curettage (D&C)

Definition

Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a medical procedure in which the cervix is dilated and the lining of the uterus (endometrium) is scraped away using a spoon-shaped instrument called a curette. This procedure is performed for various reasons, including diagnosing and treating abnormal uterine bleeding, removing retained products of conception, or diagnosing and treating certain uterine conditions.
