Congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

Definition

Congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a the most common congenital (at birth) viral infection. The baby is born with the infection, which is passed from the mother during pregnancy. Most newborns with CMV have mild or no symptoms, but some will experience significant symptoms, including hearing loss, developmental delay, and seizures.
