Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, Adrenogenital Syndrome
Definition
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), also known as adrenogenital syndrome, is a group of inherited genetic disorders affecting the adrenal glands. These glands produce hormones essential for various bodily functions. A person with CAH does not produce enough cortisol and sometimes aldosterone, leading to an overproduction of androgen hormones.
