Cholelithiasis (gallstones)

Definition

Cholelithiasis, also known as gallstones, is a condition characterized by the formation of hard, stone-like deposits in the gallbladder. These deposits are typically composed of cholesterol, bilirubin, or other substances and can vary in size and number. Gallstones can cause pain, inflammation, and complications if they obstruct the flow of bile.
