Childhood Absence Epilepsy

Definition

Childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) is a type of epilepsy that typically begins between the ages of 4 and 8, characterized by brief, sudden episodes of unresponsiveness and staring spells. These seizures, known as absence seizures, usually last for a few seconds and may occur multiple times a day. Children with CAE often have normal cognitive development and no other neurological issues.
