Axillary Lymph Node Dissection (ALND)

Definition

Axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) is a surgical procedure performed to remove lymph nodes from the axilla (armpit) region. This procedure is commonly done in the treatment of breast cancer to determine the extent of cancer spread and to reduce the risk of recurrence. The number of lymph nodes removed during ALND can vary depending on the individual case.
