Auditory processing disorder (APD), also known as central auditory processing disorder (CAPD), is a condition characterized by difficulties in the way the brain processes auditory information. Individuals with APD may have normal hearing, but struggle to understand, interpret, and respond to sounds and speech due to impaired neural processing.
