22q deletion syndrome, also known as DiGeorge syndrome or velocardiofacial syndrome, is a genetic disorder caused by the deletion of a small segment of chromosome 22. This deletion results in a wide range of health problems, including heart defects, immune system dysfunction, facial abnormalities and developmental delays.
